Of the 128 different cards in the JY 8 set, only 9 of them have any examples that have been graded PSA 10s. The Matsubara card is 1 of 1. The Fujita card is 1 of 2. Makoto Matsubara, a corner infielder for the Taiyo Whales, was an 11
time Central League all star. As the Whales were perennial also rans during his 19 seasons with the club, he never participated in a Japan series until his final year, when he signed with the Yomiuri Giants. In his first ever Japan Series at
bat, he drilled a pinch hit home run. Taira Fujita was the premier shortstop in the Central League during the late 1960s and early 1970s. As a result, he was named to six Japan Pro Baseball Best 9 teams. Aside from his excellent fielding
that resulted in multiple golden gloves, he was best known for his batting eye. He once went 208 at bats without striking out!
