After the 1955 season, the New York Yankees toured Japan, playing 16 games against Japan Pro Baseball's best, winning 15 with one tie. While we presume that there were originally more cards in this set, these five cards are the only ones seen to date, with two copies of two of the cards known, and only one copy known of the other three. The cards comprising this lot feature #29 Charlie Silvera, #17 Bobby Richardson, #53 Johnny Kucks, #12 Gil McDougald and #53 Frank Leja. Richardson did not play during the Tour, and it is not known whether he accompanied the team on the trip. What is known is that this is the earliest baseball card produced anywhere in the world to depict Richardson as a New York Yankee, and thus must be considered to be his true rookie card. At the time of this Tour, Richardson had appeared in only 11 U.S. Major League games. This is the only copy of the Richardson card known to exist in the hobby! Blank backed cards.
Size: Each card is approximately 2 7/8" x 3 3/4". Sizes vary slightly from card to card.
