Over the years, we have auctioned and sold quite a number of U.S. Japan Tour tickets and Nippon Series tickets, but this is only the seocnd time in our more than 60 auctions that we have had the pleasure to offer a 1950s Japan Pro Baseball All Star Game ticket.
The game was the second of two All Star Games that year, and was played at Korakuen Stadium on July 4, 1956. Central League manager Shigeru Mizuhara (HOF) led his squad to a 2-0 victory over the Pacific League All Stars, managed by HOFer Kazuto Tsuruoka. Takao Kajimoto (HOF) was the losing pitcher, and Yoshio Yoshida (HOF) was chosen MVP for the game. In an unusual twist, all four umpires who participated in the game, Shima, Nidegawa, Yokozawa and Karita are also members of the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame. The ticket price is 220 yen, of which 20 yen was allocated to an Olympic fund. The 1956 Olympic Games began on November 22nd in Melbourne Australia. An advertisement for Sunstar toothpaste is on the back.
