The 1967 Kabaya-Leaf set is the vintage Japanese baseball set that is most popular with American collectors. There are several reasons for this phenomenon: 1. Unlike most other vintage Japanese cards, this set was imported into the U.S. for resale within a few years after its release, and thus has been well known here for decades. 2. The set is one of very few vintage Japanese issues that is of a size and format similar to standard American baseball cards. 3. There are cards of 105 different players in contrast to most other vintage Japanese sets which contain between 30 and 60 players. 4. There are a number of short printed cards, which add to the glamour of completing a set. Obviously, one of the key players in the set is Shigeo Nagashima, Japan's most popular player ever. Unlike most cards in the set which have four narrow white borders, cards of Yomiuri Giants players have a thick, solid bottom border similar to 1953 Topps. These bottom borders and corners are often subject to considerable damage. This example is relatively free of such damage.
