This card, one of a 16 card set manufactured by Kagome, depicts the great Russian right hander. The set was produced in conjunction with the 1949 San Francisco Seals Tour of Japan, and contains cards of both Japanese and Seals players. "All Japan" is printed in Japanese on both the front and back of the card. The likeness is of exceptional quality for a menko baseball card. Starffin had two excellent appearances as a starting pitcher douring the Tour. In game three, he shut out the Seals for the first six innings. In game 10, the Seals were shut out for the first eight innings. In both games, Starffin was victimized by lack of run support and the Japan All Stars lost by shutouts. Starffin got no decision in either game.
