This set will be catalogued in the next edition of the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide. As of now, 17 different cards are known. All feature Tokyo Big Six University players or high school and middle school players. At this time, no more than three copies of any card in the set are known to exist. This is the first time that we have had the opportunity to offer cards from this set in our auctions. The card on the left depicts a player named Okano from Aichi Middle School. The card on the right features Jiro Ito from Heian Middle School. Ito, born in Taiwan, was Heian's ace pitcher when Heian was runner up in the Fall 1928 National High School Baseball Championships at Koshien. During the tournament, he pitched a no hitter. In the early 1930s Ito was a star pitcher/outfielder for Hosei U. in the Tokyo Big Six University League. When Japan Pro Baseball began, he became a member of the Tokyo Senators. He pitched and played outfield for the Senators through the 1939 season. Clearly, a card from Ito's middle school days must be his rookie card!
