This item was a limited edition presented to dignitaries or the press. The Globetrotters were founded in Chicago in 1926. By 1951, they were touring the world regularly. Several times during the 1950s, they played a number of games in Japan. The front of the bar features an enameled, joint U.S./Japan flag in the center of the words "HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS". A basketball charm on a pendant hangs from the bar. There is engraving on the back of the bar. The number 143 appears in the center, and "25th Commemorative Year" is printed in Japanese to the right. The number 143 is also found on the wood case, thus indicating that the tie bars were produced in a limited edition. The fact that the Trotters toured Japan in 1951, along with the 25 year notation confirms the 1951 date. Marquis Haynes and Goose Tatum were the featured stars of the Japan Tour. This is a great example of world basketball history.
