We have just discovered that this is a 1947 set, rather than the 1950 designation provided in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide. The "player" Uehara had the team designation of "Shochiku", which we felt referred to the Robins team that did not carry that name prior to 1950. We were always puzzled as to why Uehara was not listed as having played Japan Pro Baseball for the Robins. Now we know why. It turns out that "Uehara" is famous Japanese actor, Ken Uehara! Shochiku was the name of a movie studio that employed Uehara (1909-1992). His long career included at least 105 feature films and a Japan Academy Award. Apparently, the image on the card is from a baseball movie!
The five HOFers in this lot are Tetsuharu Kawakami, Jiro Noguchi, Michio Nishizawa, Fumio Fujimura and Kazuto Tsuruoka. Others are Komae-Stars and Michitaro Mizushima (another famous Japanese actor shown in a baseball uniform!).
Size: Each card is 1 7/8" in diameter.
