In 1950, Japan Pro Baseball was divided into two leagues, the Central League and the Pacific League. The first Japan Series was also held in 1950. However, the first all star games between the two leagues were not held until 1951. The three games of the first All Star Series were played on 7/4, 7/7 and 7/8.
The first game, played at Koshien Stadium, was won by the Central League by a score of 2-1. Hall of Famer Takehiko Bessho was the winning pitcher. The second and third games were played at Korakuen Stadium. The Central League won the second game 4-2, with Bessho pitching his team to victory again, backed by a home run from Hall of Famer Michio Nishizawa. The Pacific League gained some revenge with a 4-3 victory propelled by a Tokuji Iida blast.
This is the first time that we have ever encountered a badge or pin from the 1951 All Star Series. We don't know whether this item was a press pin, or whether it was presented to a dignitary. It is relatively heavy, weighing in at 0.7 oz. The number 110 is engraved on the reverse side. The pin may have been used at the first game (Koshien Stadium) because only one of the three games was played there, and "All Star Game" rather than "Games" appears on the front.
Size: 1 5/8" in diameter. 0.7 oz.
