In 1971 and 1975, the Yomiuri Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers both trained at Vero Beach, Florida prior to that start of the regular season. We believe that the picture found on this card was taken during 1975 spring training, as Ron Cey did not become a regular player for the Dodgers until 1973.
In the photo, Cey is at bat against Japan Hall of Fame member, Tsuneo Horiuchi, who was nicknamed "Wonder Boy" (having nothing to do with Roy Hobbs' bat in The Natural). Horiuchi was a key member of the Yomiuri Giants during their record nine consecutive championship seasons. He won the Sawamura Award (Japan Cy Young) twice, was a Rookie of the Year, and was a seven-time All-Star. He was also a two-time winner of the Japan Series MVP award.
The card has been awarded the grade of PSA 5 (Ex). Only two examples of this card have been encapsulated by PSA to date, with this card being the highest graded example, with the other graded card having received a PSA 4 (Vg/Ex) grade.
