The text at bottom of this card lists Makoto Kozuru as a member of the Kyuei Stars. Indeed, he is depicted in a 1949 Stars uniform. However, Kozuru left the Stars after the 1949 season to join the Shochiku Robins for 1950. 1950 was the first year that Japan Pro Baseball was divided into two Leagues, the Central League and Pacific League. The text also refers to Kozuru as a member of the Pacific League. Thus, we assume that this 1st prize card from a product display sheet was printed in early 1950.

In 1949, Kozuru switched to a new batting method that he called the "Golf Batting Style" in which he increased his hip rotation. The change served him well, as he won the batting crown with a .361 average. In 1950, he batted .355, belted 51 homers and drove in 161 runs in a 130 game season! The RBI total is still the Japan Pro Baseball season record.
