The 1947 JBR 73 Marutoku Black & White Bromides set depicts the players in their 1946 uniforms. One player in the set, Yasuo Takayama, did not play after 1946, so it is assumed that JBR 73 is a pre-season 1947 set, making it the earliest large postwar baseball card set that was produced by any manufacturer (48 cards). A card of Starffin appears in the JBR 163 1946 Street Clothes set 1st Version. However, there are only two cards in the set, so some collectors consider the card offered here (JBR 73) to be the Starffin rookie.

In any case, the card contains a striking close-up image of Victor Starffin completing his pitching motion while wearing his 1946 Pacific team uniform. This example came directly from a taba (hanging bundle) that was opened recently. It is the first JBR 73 Victor Starffin card that we have ever auctioned. Blank back card

Size: 1 5/8" x 2 3/8"

Condition: Recently pulled from a pack. However, JBR 73 cards are often carelessly hand cut by the manufacturer. In this case, part of two adjacent cards on the original uncut sheet appear at the right border and top. There is damage at the upper right corner, but all of it is confined to the adjacent card. The blank back contains areas of darkening. As such, it is difficult to give the card a straightforward 1 to 10 grade. The card is pack fresh but miscut. Possibly overall Vg.
