The JBR 184 Heibon magazine All Star Bromides set was issued in the September 1958 issue as three, 15 card uncut sheets held together by a cigar band wrapper. While nearly all cards in the set depict entertainers, there are five sumo wrestlers and two baseball players, the other baseball player being HOFer Shigeo Nagashima.
This sheet of thin cardboard cards is highly coveted by collectors in that one of the cards depicts all time great pitcher, Masaichi Kaneda (second row left). Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Version 3.0 lists the JBR 184 set as having a scarcity factor of R5, which means that five or fewer copies of this Kaneda card are known.
On the back of each card, we find basic information about the person depicted, such as date of birth, height, weight and in Kaneda's case, the fact that he likes his wife's home cooking. Sumo Yokozuna (Grand Champion) Chiyonoyama is depicted on the card in the upper right corner of the sheet. Also seen are American actors Anthony Perkins and Jean Seberg.
Size: Uncut card sheet--7 1/8" x 5". Each card is 1 7/16" x 1 11/16".
Condition: There is corner wear at upper left of the sheet (Anthony Perkins card) and at some other edges. Kaneda would be Nm or better if carefully cut from the sheet.
