After spending the first seven years of his pro baseball career with the Fighters, Hiroshi Oshita joined the Nishitetsu Lions for the 1952 season. By 1954 the Lions were Pacific League pennant winners and Oshita was league MVP. In 1956 the team won their first Japan Series.
Oshita, a native of Taiwan, was known for his blue bat and his sordid off-the-field behavior. A graduate of Meiji University and a trained kamikaze pilot, Oshita was selected to seven Best 9 teams and won three batting titles as well as the MVP award.
