This is a tough-to-find rookie card of the God of Batting, Tetsuharu Kawakami.  Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0 by Gary Engel, has assigned the card a scarcity factor of R4, indicating that 10 or fewer copies are known. We would estimate the total to be well under 10 examples. While Kawakami began his career in 1938, no cards prior to 1947 were ever printed of Kawakami. 1947 was a "dead ball" year, as only four hitters batted .300 or better (none over .315) and only four players hit more than 10 homers. ERAs were staggeringly low with many pitchers below 2.00. Nevertheless, in 1947 Kawakami batted .309 and was named to the league Best 9 team at first base.

Blank back card.
