Bromides were generally sold in hanging bundles called "taba". Each taba consists of many single card paper "packs", composed of pieces of newspaper tied together with a string. A thin cardboard cover has a sample card affixed to it. When the purchaser requested a "pack", the candy store owner removed a random pack from the taba. The purchaser was then able to open the pack to see which card he or she had received. In this case, each pack contains one four-in-one bromide from the 1960 JBR 6 set.
This is a special taba in that the 4 in 1 card on the cover includes Sadaharu Oh! The probability of having a card with an Oh image on the cover of a JBR 6 taba is only about 12%. 1960, was only Oh's second season in Japan Pro Baseball.
There are 66 individual images in the JBR 6 set, 22 of which depict Japan Hall of Fame Members as follows: Sadaharu Oh (2 diff.), Wally Yonamine, Shigeo Nagashima (3 diff.), Isao Harimoto (2 diff.), Kazuhisa Inao, Yoshio Yoshida, Minoru Murayama, Masaaki Koyama, Kenjiro Tamiya (2 diff.), Yasumitsu Toyoda, Tadashi Sugiura (2 diff.), Katsuya Nomura, Yoshinori Hirose, Motoshi Fujita, Shinichi Eto and Tetsuya Yoneda. Also included are Chico Barbon and Joe Stanka.
Each card in the taba contains four images, so if you opened the entire taba, you would have cards containing about 450 images. You would expect to get six or seven copies of each of the 66 images on average, which would mean more than 10 Sadaharu Ohs and 15 Shigeo Nagashimas!
Size: Each 4 in 1 card is 1 7/8" x 3". Each image is 15/16" x 1 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the taba is Ex to Ex/Mt. Unlike most tabas found today, the string that holds the packs in place, located near the bottom of the taba, is still present. Most cards inside the taba would most likely grade Near Mint or better if removed from the taba. The card attached to the front of the taba is warped, because it was mounted using glue.
