1961 was Sadaharu Oh's third year in Japan Pro Baseball. During his first three seasons, Oh was stil finding his sea legs at the plate. He had established himself as the Giants' regular first baseman, playing in 127 games and batting a respectable.253 with 13 homers, 53 RBIs and .805 OPS. However, things didn't take off for him until 1962, when he switched to his famous flamingo batting stance and became an entirely new offensive player.
