Ever since the passing of the "God of Batting" over a decade ago, there has been a significant uptick in the number of Kawakami collectors. Kawakami was the greatest hitter in the history of Japan Pro Baseball until Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima came along. He subsequently managed the Oh-Nagashima led Giants to nine consecutive Japan Series championships. As such, he is one of the preeminent figures in the annals of Japanese baseball.
