As was the case with many future Japan Hall of Fame members, along with his numerous baseball cards, many pieces of Takehiko Bessho memorabilia were produced. One of these collector pieces is this colorful plate, produced by YMK China. Bessho's facsimile autograph is seen in the right hand portion, next to an attractive rendering of Bessho in the midst of his signature high leg kick delivery. This piece is unique to the hobby. We have never seen another example.
Takehiko Bessho was Japan's premier pitcher during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He twice won 30 or more games in a season, baffling hitters with a variety of off speed deliveries. During his career, he won two MVP awards and two Sawamura (Japanese Cy Young) awards. He won 310 games and had a lifetime ERA of only 2.18.
