This card is part of a deck consisting of 54 playing cards, including seven cards that feature baseball players. The set was discovered just recently, and will be included for the first time in the next edition of Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide. At this point, we do not know who manufactured the cards, but we think they were issued in 1963. One of the seven players included in the card deck is Japanese cultural icon, Shigeo Nagashima.
As usual, the Yomiuri Giants won the Central League pennant and Japan Series in 1963, led by the O-N Connection of Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima. Nagashima led the league in batting average at .341 and in RBIs with 112. He was denied the Triple Crown when Oh bashed 40 homers that season.
