Autographed
baseball cards from the early postwar era are almost unheard of. In this case we have a card signed by Hall of
Famer and Yomiuri Giants ace, Takehiko Bessho (1922-1999). The bold autograph appears to have been
signed with a blue fountain pen.
Bessho’s surname was printed on the back of the otherwise blank back card by the manufacturer.
Takehiko
Bessho was Japan's premier pitcher during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He
twice won 30 or more games in a season, baffling hitters with a variety of off-speed
deliveries. During his career, he won two MVP awards and two Sawamura (Japanese
Cy Young) awards. He won 310 games and had a lifetime ERA of only 2.18.
Size: 2 1/16” x 2 1/4”
Condition: The autograph grades 8 to 9 out of 10. The card is Good.
