Originally sold in tabas which had the title “Baseball Star
Bromide” printed on the cover, the sets actually contained more cards of
celebrities than of baseball players. All are borderless pure cards which
contain no text and have blank backs. All baseball cards depict either Sadaharu
Oh, Shigeo Nagashima, or both players.
The Oh and Nagashima portrait cards are also seen in colorized form in
the JCM 15a set, which we know was released in either 1971 or 1972. Therefore,
we have assigned the same date of issue to this set.
The set has been assigned a scarcity factor of R5 in Japanese
Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0 by Gary
Engel, signifying that five or fewer copies of each card are known. We pulled each of the cards offered here
directly from the taba (pack) several months ago. Three of these black & white pure cards
depict Shigeo Nagashima (HOF). One
features Sadaharu Oh (HOF), and the fifth card is a portrait of Oh and
Nagashima together.
This is a rare Oh/Nagashima issue!
Size: Each card is 2 1/8” x
3 5/8”.
Condition: Nm
and Mint directly from the pack. However,
in general, cards from this set were not cut perfectly by the manufacturer. Therefore, slight bits of adjacent cards can
be seen on most examples.
