JF 74 is the rare Maruho Seika set whose cards are extremely rare. In fact, the Maruho set has been assigned a scarcity factor of R5 in Japanese Baseball Cards Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 3.0. This card is even scarcer.
The front of this card of Isao Harimoto is identical to its JF 74 counterpart. However, the back contains different verbiage, including the fact the card was produced by a different company with a similar name, Marimo! This is the first Marimo card we have ever seen of any player, and in this case, a very special player is depicted.
Isao Harimoto is Japan's only member of the 500 home runs and 3,000 hits club. In fact, he is the only player to amass 3,000 or more hits during his Japan Pro Baseball career. In 1959, he was named Pacific League Rookie of the Year. A left-handed hitting outfielder, Harimoto was named to his league's Best 9 team 16 times and was Pacific League MVP in 1962.
