This card was originally as a 1st prize winner card associated with the 1952 JBR 28 Yamakatsu bromide set. Anyone who was in possession of a JBR 28 card with the number “1” printed on the back was eligible to select a first prize card from JBR 26.
Considered by many to be Japan's greatest pitcher, Kaneda holds many Japan Pro Baseball career records including most wins (400), most losses (298), most innings pitched (5,526 2/3) most strikeouts (4,490) and most walks (1,808). His lifetime ERA was 2.34. In the mid-1950s, he won three consecutive Sawamura (Japan Cy Young) awards and twice won 30 games in a season. This breathtaking close-up image of Kaneda in mid-windup would make a fine addition to any Kaneda fan’s collection.
