This card of Kaoru Betto is in extremely high grade for a JCM 48 card.  Well over 95% of JCM 48 cards are found in “collector grade”.  The card was produced during Betto’s rookie season, so it has always been in high demand.  As a bonus, an image of Tetsuharu Kawakami (HOF), the “God of Batting”, is found on the back.

Betto, a right handed hitting, bespectacled outfielder is best known to Americans as the player whose visage is seen on the iconic shirt worn by Jeff Bridges in the movie, The Big Lebowski. In 1948, as a rookie with the Osaka Tigers, Betto batted .328 with 13 homers. In 1949, he batted .322 with an impressive 39 homers and 126 RBIs. In 1950, Betto signed with the Mainichi Orions, leading the team to the first Japan Series championship.
