Here is a shikishi (traditional Japanese autograph board) signed by the two great Japanese icons in the early years of their careers. One might say that this shikishi is the Japanese equivalent of a baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Known as the O-N Cannon, this duo terrorized Japan Pro Baseball pitchers for 16 years. The two sluggers led the Yomiuri Giants to nine consecutive Japan Series titles.

Nagashima was named to the Central League Best 9 after each of his 17 seasons. He was named 1958 C.L. Rookie of the Year, and was a five time Central League MVP. A third baseman, his fielding was likened to that of his American contemporary, Brooks Robinson. Sadaharu Oh was named Central League MVP nine times! He was named to the league Best Nine team on 18 occasions. His lifetime OPS was a staggering 1.080. He led the league in walks 18 times. Can you imagine how many homers he would have hit in his career if opposing pitchers had had the nerve to pitch to him?

In our 33 years dealing with Japanese baseball memorabilia, this is earliest Oh/Nagashima dual signed shikishi that we have ever offered.

Signed in black marker.
