This card is likely a companion piece to Lot #32 of our Auction #60 held in March of 2021. The two giant cards are identical in size. Both contain the same text in the same font at bottom printed in the same, unusual green color. Only two copies of this card are known in the hobby at present. The card is also most likely a member of the same set as the card in Lot 40 of this auction featuring Fumio Fujimura.
Makoto Kozuru, known as Japan's Joe DiMaggio, is seen here wearing his 1950 Shochiku Robins uniform. The card is undoubtedly a first prize premium, originally associated with a display sheet. In 1950, Kozuru was named Central League MVP. He led the league with 51 homers (a single season record at the time) and 161 RBI. These totals were amassed in only 137 games! The Robins claimed the 1950 Central League pennant, but were defeated in the Japan Series.
Blank backed card.
Size: 7 5/8" x 10 1/8"
Condition: Technically G/Vg because of corner wear but still beautiful. There is extra paper and glue residue on the blank back, as the card was originally offered attached to a product display sheet. All examples of this card should have similar marks of attachment.
