We have recently discovered several different cards from this heretofore uncatalogued set. Based on the uniforms worn by several of the other players, we have been able to determine that this set was produced in 1948.

1948 was Kaoru Betto's rookie year. Betto, a right handed hitting, bespectacled outfielder, nicknamed the "Gentleman of Baseball", is best known to Americans as the player whose visage is seen on the iconic shirt worn by Jeff Bridges in the movie, The Big Lebowski. In each of his first six professional seasons, Betto was selected to the league Best 9 team as an outfielder. In 1948, as a rookie, Betto batted .328 with 13 homers. In 1949, he batted .322 with an impressive 39 homers and 126 RBIs. He subsequently moved on to the Mainichi Orions for whom he played from 1950 until his retirement as an active player in 1957.

Blank backed card.
