After two stellar years with the Osaka Tigers, Kaoru Betto moved on to the Mainichi Orions for the 1950 season. It was a career year for him, as he won the Pacific League MVP while attaining personal career highs of 43 homers, 105 RBI and a 1.068 OPS, all of which led the league, This first prize card from a display sheet commemorates Betto's outstanding season.
During his playing days, Kaoru Betto was known as the "Gentleman of Baseball". However, after gaining fame more recently because of the iconic Betto t-shirt worn by Jeff Bridges in the films, The Big Lebowski, The Fisher King and Cold Feet, maybe Betto's nickname should be changed from the "Gentleman of Baseball" to "Mr. Hollywood"!
