Right handed pitcher Al Lien had a 19 year career in pro baseball. He spent 1943 to 1954 with the San Francisco Seals, and was a big winner for them. His best season was 1950 when he won 20 games and lost 13. All in all, he won 196 games in the minor leagues. The JF 35a set carries an R5 designation in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 2.1 by Gary Engel, signifying that five or fewer copies of each card in this blank backed set are known. In fact, this is the first copy seen of the JF 35a Al Lien card.
