2020 marks the 48th consecutive year in which Calbee has issued a set of baseball cards depicting Japan Pro Baseball players.  Over the years, Calbee cards have been found at the rate of one card per pack of Calbee potato chips (and occasionally other Calbee products).

1973 was the year of Calbee's inaugural baseball card sets.   The company obviously desired to introduce their new product in a creative way that would entice purchasers. As a result, the first six cards in the 1973 set depict Mr. Giants, Shigeo Nagashima, while the next six cards feature the other half of the O-N Cannon, the immortal Sadaharu Oh.

The two cards offered here are JC 1 cards, meaning that they exhibit the monoshiri (crossed bats) back style. The cards are #10 and #12. In 1973, the Yomiuri Giants, behind Oh and Nagashima, won their ninth consecutive Japan Series championship. Oh won the triple crown, batting .355 with 51 homers and 114 RBI in a 130 game season. Not surprisingly, he received the 1973 Central League Most Valuable Player award.
