JDM 1 is one of the classic sets of vintage Japanese baseball card collecting. It epitomizes the merger of the Japanese artistic aesthetic with the American concept of a baseball card. JDM 1 cards were among the first discovered when the hobby began to attract widespread interest more than 30 years ago. While the players' bodies are stylized, the heads seem to be modeled on actual player photos and thus closely resemble the players depicted, which is somewhat unusual for a diecut menko set.
