Just like Japanese baseball cards, Japanese non-sport cards of the late 1940s and early 1950s often were sold in tabas (hanging bundles). Like the baseball cards, they often were accompanied by display sheets containing first, second and third prize winner cards. These winner cards could be obtained if you had a winner notation stamped on the back of a card from the regular set.

Here, we have a lot of six giant sized first prize winner cards from three different unknown Western Heroes card sets. If there were an Western Actors Hall of Fame, all six of the men represented here would certainly be candidates for induction. Look at this all star lineup: (top row, left to right) Gary Cooper, Roy Rogers, Errol Flynn (bottom row, left to right) Gregory Peck, Ranolph Scott, Jimmy Stewart. The Flynn card also mentions the movie, San Antonio. Stewart's card refers to the film, Broken Arrow. In the United States, San Antonio was released in 1945, and Broken Arrow in 1950. However in Japan, San Antonio made its debut in 1950, with Broken Arrow following in 1951. All six cards include the actor's name in Japanese. Blank backed.

Size: Each card is approximately 7" x 10".

Condition: All cards are Ex/Mt or Nm, except for the Gary Cooper card which has two pinholes. The Cooper and Peck cards have additional paper and glue from having been issued on a display sheet by the manufacturer.
