This card was part of a three card set of bromide baseball cards distributed in the February 1931 issue of Yakyukai magazine. Takeo Tabe is known as the "Phantom of Pro Baseball". After an outstanding career at Meiji U., Tabe signed with the Dai Nippon Tokyo baseball club that later became the Yomiuri Giants. He was a part of their 110 game barnstorming Tour of the U.S., in which the Japanese team played against many U.S. major and minor league teams. During this Tour, Tabe stole 105 bases! However, following the Tour, on the eve of the first Japan Pro Baseball season, Tabe quit the Giants and never played in the Japan Pro League. Tabe was killed in action during World War II at Okinawa. This card shows Tabe in his Meiji U. uniform. At Meiji, he played every position on the diamond. This attractive sepiatone specimen shows him as a pitcher. Blank backed.
