The 1970 San Francisco Giants Tour of Japan was unusual in several respects. 1. It occurred during spring training in March, rather than after the season. 2. It was shorter than the other early MLB Japan Tours (9 games). 3. Most games were played against one Japan Pro Baseball team, the Lotte Orions (5 of 9 contests). 4. The Giants, unlike previous MLB teams which generally won most of the games, lost six of the nine contests! The Giants featured four Hall of Fame members, Juan Marichal, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey and Gaylord Perry. The Giants' pitching was solid and Mays batted an astounding .727. But the rest of the Giants' bats were cold.

Masanori Murakami (a former S.F. Giant) and Japan HOF pitchers Mutsuo Minagawa, Tsuneo Horiuchi, Masaaki Koyama, Senichi Hoshino, Masaji Hiramatsu among others held the Giants in check. Sadaharu Oh homered twice in the only game contested by the Giants against the Yomiuri Giants.

This promotional program is one of the principal souvenirs of the Tour. The six page foldout document lists the games to be played with ticket prices for each. It features a detailed S. F. Giants roster and photos of the Giants stars, including the four Hall of Famers. It also features considerable text in Japanese about the Giants. There is a nice team photo on the back cover. All in all, it is an interesting preview of one of the less well known U.S. MLB team tours of Japan.
