While we have handled numerous 1974 Mets Japan Tour tickets over the years, this is only the second time we have seen the original ticket envelope. The jacket is printed in a lighter shade of blue than is normally found on the tickets. A beautiful image of Tom Seaver is found on the face of this ticket. Interestingly, the ticket is for the game of 10/27, which was rained out and was actually played on 10/28 at Korakuen Stadium between the Mets and Yomiuri Giants. Jon Matlack was the Mets' starting pitcher. The game was called after 10 innings with the score tied at 4-4. During this series of 18 games, Sadaharu Oh batted .322 with an on base percentage of .481 and slugged six homers. Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman and John Matlack started 15 of the 18 games, which indicates that Oh most likely would have been a top hitter in the U.S. had he been given a chance to play there. The Mets had a record of 9-7-2 on the Tour against various Japan Pro Baseball opposition. The back of the envelope contains a Pepsi Cola advertisement. The reverse side of the ticket contains an ad for a snack product called Curl, a product of the Meiji Co.
