Tokuro Konishi (1896-1977) was an outfielder and captain at Meiji University, but his greatest fame came from being a Japan Pro Baseball manager, umpire and announcer. In 1950 he won the Central League pennant as manager of the
Shochiku Robins, but lost the first modern Japan Series to the Mainichi Orions. In 1955 he began a long and successful career broadcasting baseball for the NHK network and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971. This card depicts
Konishi as a broadcaster. He appears to be talking about a player in the circle at top portion of the card. The player is wearing what resembles a Yomiuri Giants uniform #3. That's Shigeo Nagashima's number. Is it Nagashima? Only four
different cards of Konishi are catalogued in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 2.1. So, it is not easy to obtain a card of this Hall of Famer. This high grade example is perfect for any Hall of Fame
collection.
