This card was not known to exist until a few months ago. Thus, it is not found in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 2.1. Two examples have recently been discovered. Obviously, this is a rare card of a Hall of Fame member. The card design is quite similar to 1949 Bowman. Katsumi Shiraishi was a member of the 1936 Tokyo Giants in the inaugural year of Japan Pro Baseball. Subsequently, he played 18 seasons for three different teams. He then became manager of the Hiroshima Carp for 18 years. He was known as an outstanding defensive shortstop.
