In November 1928, following his final major league season as an active player, Ty Cobb, along with Bob Shawkey, Herb Hunter and umpire Ernie Quigley journeyed to Japan to play 12 exhibition games with the Daimai team. Four of Cobb's Japanese teammates autographed these photos in English using a fountain pen. The player who signed the photo at upper right is Yoshio Yuasa. A pitcher, Yuasa formed a battery with Hall of Fame catcher, Shuichi Amachi at Meiji U. in the early 1920s and then began a long association with the Daimai club, before becoming a player/manager in Japan Pro Baseball. The other players are Umeo Tanizawa, an infielder who later managed Meiji U. (upper left), Eiji Sugai, an outfielder (lower left) and Hideo Mori, a catcher (lower right). All autographs are signed in blue fountain pen.

Size: Each photo is 2 3/8" x 3 3/8".

Condition: The autographs range from 7 to 10 out of 10. The photos are sharp and in outstanding condition, but show evidence on the back of having previously been glued into an album.
