Hochi Shimbun (newspaper), founded in 1872, is a Japanese daily sports newspaper. More recently, the name of the paper was changed to Sports Hochi. In either 1951 or 1952, Hochi Shimbun offered this large size baseball card of Yomiuri Giants HOFer, Tetsuharu Kawakami, to its readers. The blank backed card includes a facsimile player autograph. In 1951, the left handed first baseman led the Central League with a .377 batting average, with only six strikeouts in 422 plate appearances! Kawakami was Japan's best hitter of the 1940s and 50s. He was a three time MVP and six time batting champion. Blank backed card.

Condition: There is a 1" vertical tear at the bottom border. Also some creasing. Corners and borders are Ex.
