Only two copies of each card are known to exist. The 1951 U.S. Major League All Star Tour of Japan was the first postwar American baseball Tour which included major league stars. The Americans rolled to a 13-1-2 record vs. various Japan Pro Baseball opposition. In commemoration of this Tour, the Daily Yomiuri, Japan’s largest newspaper, issued the JBR 127 set of six cards. The set was issued in two groups of three cards, with each group housed in a special commemorative green envelope. “Japan/U.S. Big Baseball Player Bromides” is emblazoned across the center in Japanese text. The three cards included here depict Ferris Fain, Ed Lopat and Mel Parnell. These large sepia beauties each include a facsimile autograph of the player pictured, along with his name in Japanese within an off-white strip. The cards are blank backed except for “Yomiuri”, which is embossed near the bottom.

Size: Each card is approximately 3 ¼” x 5 ¼”

Condition: The Fain card and the Lopat card have a faint discoloration on the back at upper right due to being housed in the envelope for decades. Otherwise, the Fain would grade Ex/Mt and the Lopat would be Nm. The Parnell card does not exhibit this defect and grades Nm/Mt.
