This Marumon Karuta set is offered in its original box with a portrait of Tetsuharu Kawakami on the lid. The cards are still unused in their original cigar band wrappers. There are 48 player cards and 47 reading cards in the complete set, as there was no reading card manufactured for the corresponding player card with the character KYO. There are 22 cards that depict Japan Hall of Fame members--Tetsuharu Kawakami (3 diff.), Fumio Fujimura (2 diff.), Hiroshi Oshita (2 diff.), Victor Starffin (Russia), Henry "Bozo" Wakabayashi (Hawaii), Juzo Sanada, Tokuji Iida, Kazuto Tsuruoka, Noboru Aota, Hiroshi Nakao, Michinori Tsubouchi, Michio Nishizawa, Hideo Fujimoto, Takehiko Bessho, Shigeru Chiba, Makoto Kozuru and Katsumi Shiraishi. This is the JK 17a set which, unlike JK 17b set, has reading cards with a swinging batter image in the background. This is a nice, high grade set.
