Atsushi Aramaki (1926-1971) was a fireballing left handed pitcher with the Mainichi Orions. His Japan Pro Baseball career began in 1950 when he was named Rookie of the Year. He died at the young age of 46 and was inducted into the Japanese baseball Hall of Fame in 1985. This ceramic plate was distributed by the Sunday Mainichi magazine, which was published by the owners of the Orions team. The plate was the work of influential manga artist, Ryuichi Yokoyama (1909-2001). Yokoyama is best known for creating the popular Japanese cartoon character, Fukuchan. Yokoyama was also a renowned painter, sculptor, film director and television director.
