Following their World Series defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1971, the Baltimore Orioles embarked on an 18 game Tour of Japan. This was the Orioles team that featured a remarkable four different pitchers who won 20 games that season. The Orioles went 13-3-2 on the Tour, playing most of their games against the Japan Series Champion Yomiuri Giants, featuring Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima. Of the Big Four, Mike Cuellar and Pat Dobson each won three games, with Jim Palmer posting two victories, and Dave McNally tallying a win in his only start. Brooks Robinson played every game, batting .269 with five homers. Boog Powell was the hitting star of the series, tormenting the Japanese pitching staff with a .397 average and six home runs. The tie bar offered here in its original presentation box, was produced to commemorate the Tour. Produced for the Wako department store, the silver bar contains the inscriptions "Wako" and "silver" on the reverse, along with "1971", which is found under the clip. The front contains the Baltimore Orioles logo.
