Following the 1953 season, the New York Giants toured Japan, playing 14 games and finishing with a 12-1-1 record. Led by their irrepressible manager, Leo Durocher, and future Hall ofj Famers Monte Irvin and Hoyt Wilhelm, the Giants mowed down various Japanese opposition, including teams with Japan Hall of Famers Masaichi Kaneda, Tetsuharu Kawakami, Takehiko Bessho, etc. This large size, captioned, 30 page album of crystal clear original photos, produced by the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper, sponsors of the Tour, chronicles the entire Tour. Copies of this striking volume with its colorful, embroidered cover were presented to each member of the Giants' Tour party. This exquisite piece would hold a prominent place in the collection of any Giants fan. Also included with this lot is an invitation, printed on United States Embassy stationery, in which U.S. Ambassador to Japan, John Allison and his wife invite a Mr. Bowman (possibly the original owner of this album) to a reception on October 23, which was an off day in the middle of the Tour.
