During Nagashima's career, numerous sports magazines and children's magazines inserted various furoku (gifts) within their pages that honored Japan's greatest baseball hero. Often, these furoku were cardboard baseball cards, postcards, etc. Seen here are two examples. The smaller, green background card was produced by the magazine Omorshiro Book. We know that it was included in a March issue, but, unfortunately, the year is not printed on the card. We assume, based on Nagashima's image and facsimile signature, that it dates from either his rookie year (1958) or from 1959. It is a student schedule card, and as such contains a schedule grid on the back. The Japanese text printed at bottom on the front reads: Giants, Shigeo Nagashima. A previous owner has filled in his school schedule in ink on the reverse. The second item is an uncut pair of postcards included in a 1963 issue of the magazine, Manga Oh. Once again, Nagashima's facsimile autograph is included. Also included is a postcard of sumo sekiwake Wakachichibu. The reverse contains typical Japanese postcard backs.

Size: The Omoshiro Book card is 2 3/4" x 3 13/16". The Manga Oh postcard pair is 7" x 5 3/8". Each individual postcard is 3 1/2" x 5 3/8".

Condition: The Omoshiro Book card has Ex/Mt to Nm corners, but has two small tears at the right border. The schedule portion on the reverse has been filled in ink by a previous owner. The postcards are Vg/Ex to Ex and there is a fold between the two postcards.
