The JGA 144 set was issued in 1949 to commemorate the San Francisco Seals “Goodwill” Tour of Japan.  The set was originally sold as an uncut sheet of 52 cards. 24 cards feature members of the San Francisco Seals, while the balance feature Yomiuri Giants. This is one of two cards in the set that depicts Japan Hall of Fame member, Lefty O'Doul. O'Doul was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002 for his contributions to baseball in Japan. He is one of four Americans enshrined. Lefty played for the U.S. All Star team in Japan before World War II and organized a number of the postwar Tours, including the 1949 S.F. Seals Japan Tour, which was one of the first peacetime cultural exchanges between the U.S. and Japan following the War.
