This set will appear in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide for the first time in the next edition, where it was assigned a scarcity factor of R5, meaning that three or fewer copies exist of most cards in the set. Mamoru Sugitaya was born in 1908 in Hawaii on the island of Kauai. After playing for Waseda U. in the Tokyo Big Six University League, he was a member of the Japan All-Star team that played against Babe Ruth and the U.S. All-Stars during the 1934 Tour of Japan. He later played Japan Pro Baseball for the Eagles from 1937 until 1941, and also managed the team in his final season. Position wise, he was a jack of all trades. He was a pitcher-infielder-outfielder at Waseda, and a third baseman-outfielder in Japan Pro Baseball. Blank backed.
