After a solid nine year U.S. major league career (1982-1990) in which he played for six teams, Tom O'Malley, at age 30, headed to Japan Pro Baseball. He spent six, highly successful seasons, first with the Hanshin Tigers, and then with the Yakult Swallows, producing a .315 career batting average and a Central League MVP award (1995). Additionally, he was wildly popular in Japan, in part because of his resemblance to the actor, Robert Redford. In 2015 O'Malley was a batting coach for the Tigers. The lot offered here dates from that season.
As we have stated over the years, it is difficult to obtain game used equipment of Japanese teams, as traditionally, it is considered to be property of the team and in poor taste to remove it from the clubhouse. This is a Mizuno Pro jersey with year 2015, uniform number 80, and O'Malley's name in Japanese on attached tags.
Size: No size appears on the jersey, but as O'Malley was listed as 6 ft., 180 lbs. in his playing days, the jersey is at least extra large.
Condition: Light wear
