The two sumo Yokozuna featured in this lot are Futabayama (left) and Musashiyama (right). Futabayama (1912-1968) was named the 35th Yokozuna in 1937 and retired in 1945. During his career, he won 12 yusho (top division championships) and had a winning streak of 69 consecutive bouts, an all time record. He is generally regarded as one of the greatest rikishi (sumo wrestlers) ever. Musashiyama (1909-1969) became the 33rd Yokozuna in 1935 and retired in 1939. He was one of the most popular rikishi during the 1930s, but despite obtaining the rank of Yokozuna, most sumo aficionados feel that injuries derailed what might have been an even more outstanding career. These must have been special premium cards, as they are much larger than most sumo menko of the era.

Size: Each card is 2 3/4" x 5 3/4"
